One of the first things I ask my clients….How many cuppas do you have a day?
Now you’re probably thinking, there is a lot of sugar AND milk in these that are causing problems for your waistline?
Well, YES! the sugar and milk is defo not helping but today I wanted to cover CAFFEINE!
You see, caffeine is one of the worst things to consume if you are overweight or looking to shed body fat!
Why? Check this…
Coffee stimulates the adrenals, the hormones that activate your fight or flight response. If your adrenal hormones are stimulated too often, which is probably gonna happen if you are a multiple daily coffee drinker, your adrenal glands may eventually burn out. When your adrenals no longer function effectively, your body will go in search of a replacement hormone- which happens to be Progesterone.
Progesterone has its own full time job to do, part of which is to keep your body’s oestrogen in balance. As your body’s oestrogen is used up for your exhausted adrenals, you run the risk of becoming oestrogen dominant. Oestrogen dominance can lead to obesity, cancer and osteoporosis.
The other problem we face… Coffee also raises the acidity level of your blood, causing calcium to be pulled from your bones and your teeth for use as a buffering agent, The combination of oestrogen dominance and high blood acidity puts you at a even greater risk of osteoporosis.
If you are going to drink coffee, organic is the ‘healthiest’ way to do it. Of course coffee is not healthy at all. Caffeine is drug. A legal and widely available drug and very addictive.
Caffeine reaches its peak concentration thirty to sixty minutes after consumption, after which it is inactivated by the liver, with only half its peak level left four to six hours. However, during this time the liver has to work very hard to detoxify the caffeine and is less efficient at detoxifying other toxins. If you are lean and healthy having a cup of organic coffee with your breakfast every day is like throwing a marble at an elephants ass trying to get its attention- it isn’t going to have any effect on your already super efficient liver. However if you are obese and tired constantly, it would be advised to give coffee a miss.
It will cause havoc if consumed on a daily basis and to make it worse, adding milk, sugar and sugary snacks with your cuppa is a great way to increase anxiety, acidity as well as pack on extra fat on your butt, hips and gut!
Also, consuming coffee in the afternoon/evening can interfere with sleeping habits! Sleep is mega important if you wanna shed fat.
Do yourself a favour, if fat loss is your goal, cut back or eliminate coffee completely. Replace it with Green/White Tea, packed full of antioxidants to get you one step closer to your goal.
