One of the common problems a lot of our members get when they first start out their new fitness regime is pain in the lower leg, particularly the shins!
So, when i seen this post this morning from Olivia Edmundson (Livfit Sprts Massage) I just had to share it with your guys!

Check this out…..

Shin Splint 101-

What is it?…. Pain running along the front or inside of the shin bone. Many runners incur shin splints when they boost their running routine to quickly, adding to many kilometers or running too often without giving your body chance to properly recover.
An anterolateral shin splint affects the front and outer part of the shin muscles and is caused by structural imbalances in the size of opposite muscles. A Posteromedial shin splint affects the back and inner part of the muscles of the shin. People with flat feet are also prone to shin splints.

Causes
-unsuitable foot support
-Structural defects
-Excessive training or overuse

Symptoms
-Inflammation
-Pain on the front and outside of the shin when the heel touches the ground while your running, that eventually becomes constant.
-Pain on the inside of the lower leg above the ankle, that eventually becomes constant.
-Pain when standing on your toes or rolling your ankles inwards.
-Your shin is painful to touch.

Treatment
-Stopping of running routine for short period of time, until injury is healed.
-Stretches would be given.
-Strengthening exercises.
-Cold pack
-Wearing running shoes with a rigid heel.
Adding a arch support in your shoes.
-Slowly returning to activity after several weeks of healing.

Hope this helps!
