One of my clients was a little bit pi**ed off this week….

Not with me thank god,

Shes been working her socks off since the New Year and only lost a couple of pounds.

Despite me explaining the reasons why this could be…

She couldn’t help being a little upset.

And I understand,

If you work really hard for something, make the sacrifices and you don’t see the numbers that you want….

It can be frustrating.

^^^ I’ve seen and heard this a gazillion times btw

(Yes that is a real word)

The thing is, like I always explain to everyone…

The scales are not always your best way to measure your progress.

Take for example the lady in question,

Not only is she fitter, stronger and healthier due to all the changes shes made with her diet and exercise….

Shes actually dropped a whole dress size too!

^^^yes, you read that right

Despite the scales not moving,

Shes been building muscle (adding weight)

And at the same time losing body fat (losing weight)

What happens when you do these both at the same time?….

Yup, the weight stays EXACTLY the same.

The big difference?….

Your body changes SHAPE (you get leaner)

Get this, 5lb of fat is WAY bigger in size and volume than 5lb of muscle.

Not many people get this,

But can you imagine this….

If I was to fill a ruck sack with feathers and fill another with pebbles….

Which one would be heavier?

Pebbles obviously

I’d have to fill a dozen bags with feathers to equal the same amount for weight as the bag of pebbles bag.

Fat Loss is exactly the same

Fat has a bigger volume pound for pound.

Make sense?

Seriously, I try to explain this DAILY to people.

Folk need to stop worrying about the scales too much to.

They CAN help in the right circumstances…

But it doesn’t give the bigger picture.

You want my TOP TIP of the week?

1. Stop worrying about the scales so much….

And 2, Build more muscle to burn more fat

A bit of extra muscle helps to speed up your metabolism…

It helps keep you lean

And it also helps to keep you HEALTHY

Don’t forget, your weight fluctuates DAILY

-You are much lighter in a morning and heavier on a night time…

-Your hydration levels effect scales…

-Too much processed food (sodium intake) can cause you to retain water, which effects the scales…

-Time of the month (aka tin hat week) you retain water, the scales go up..

Truth is, loads of different things affect the scales.

Don’t let them mess with your head.

Try going by the tape measure, your belt or jean size.

Hope this helps
