Tracking your calories 101
The reason we all get fat and the reason we all put extra timber is down to one simple fact, we consume MORE than we need to go about our daily duties. The CAUSE for the over eating is a whole different subject. But today I wanted to focus on calories….
Counting calories is an effective tool to help with your results, targets can be more personalized, it’s a great tool to help create awareness, make you more mindful of what you consume or how much (or little) activity you actually do. It also make you way more accountable. Just like any ‘diet’ or food plan, this method of getting results does come with it’s own pros and cons. If you get 2min go checkout my blog on here ‘The Pro’s and Cons of counting Calories’
All you have to do, is simply track and monitor exactly what you consume daily. Start by working out how many calories you need to function, ie your BMR (Basal Metabolic rate) and then calculate how many calories you need to go about your day to day duties, your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure). All of which is personalized of course, depending on you age, height, activity levels and how many workouts per week you do. (checkout our free form below)
Once you workout how many calories you need, you can then set yourself targets and start tracking, using handy little apps like MyFitnessPal
Like I’ve said before, it’s not for everyone and just like any food plan or ‘diet’ it only works if you stick to it and record EVERYTHING you consume. I would recommend giving it a go, even if you just use it as an awareness tool, to see how much you actually consume or how much (or how little) activity you do…
Recording your good days Monday to Friday then undoing your hard work and not recording anything on weekend will not work!
